Welcome
I would like to welcome you to my classroom. In my class there is a sense of fun and excitement throughout the air. The atmosphere I want to create is for my students to have fun with technology and the old way of teaching. In combining these two forms of teaching, my classroom is a link of two different learning styles that my students can choose from. Now the best way to explain my room I have to talk about the following:
• Who’s responsible for a student’s behavior?
• Goals of the classroom
• What kind of teacher am I?
These I feel will explain who I am as a person and also as a teacher of the 21st century.
Who’s responsible for a student’s behavior?
When it comes to behavior issues in a classroom it is usually the teacher who has solo commend of a student’s behavior, which many witness to be right. Adults know what’s right and wrong where children know nothing about what is right. This I have to disagree with 100 percent. I feel a student’s behavior falls under the responsible of both the adults and child in the classroom, for they know how to behave in public. It starts with the teacher, if a teacher treats their students with respect and like young adults than positive results will happen. The children will respect that teacher and will behave to the best of their ability. In order to have this event happen one must make the other feel important, and when I say this, I mean the teacher must take the first step. Let the children have a say in their classroom rules. If a child helps build the laws of the classroom than they will feel responsible in reinforcing those rules. Another way is through rewards and encouragement coming from the teacher or aide who would be present. This psychological adaptation teaches the students that good things come to those who behave, therefore resulting in well behaved students.
Now I say these plans on how to reinforce good behavior and it sounds one sided, but we must not forget the will power of the student. This part of responsibility is the most important when dealing with behavior, for it is the child who controls this part of the process. If a child has fun and respects the teacher than that child will behave, if it is the complete opposite where the child has no respect or fun with the teacher than misbehavior shall a occur. (http://www.sd83.k12.id.us/idh/school_discipline.htm)
So who is responsible for the behavior of the student? It would be both the teacher and the child because one affects the other. The teacher takes the first step in trying to bring out the good behavior of the student, and the child’s will power if they want to behave or not.
Goals of the classroomIn my classroom I have three simple class management goals; they are respect, improvement, and fun. As a teacher I feel these three goals are the most important out of many goals in a classroom, because they form an effective learning environment.
Respect is a word that means “Show concern for or think highly of.” This is a word that seems to be at the core of many organizations. In my classroom it will do the same and be the keystone of my arch doorway into educational learning. There will be 25 students and two adults who will respect each other and treat each other the same. The reason for this word being the keystone is because a room full of students who are all friends will create a peaceful learning environment with well-behaved students.
Improvement means, “Make or become better.” This word holds dear to all teachers who want to see their students succeed. It follows right behind the keystone word respect in my arch doorway towards educational learning. Improvement is a yearly drive to enhance a child’s social, basic, and learning skills to prepare them for the following year and life in general. As this is a goal to increase the knowledge of all my students both inside and outside the classroom.
Fun a word that means, “Merry time, or source of amusement.” As a person who loves to have fun and learns more when having enjoyment, I feel it needs to be an added goal to complete my doorway of educational learning. Fun is a simple way to get the children involved in a lesson. It is a way to make the children want to come back to my classroom and want to learn. The goal itself is not as important as the other two but could be the fuel source to run my class into the ultimate learning environment.
As individual goals they seem in affective to a teacher but together these three goals complete a doorway that leads to a hallway full of opportunity and success. That’s why my classroom’s main goals are respect, improvement, and fun.
What kind of teacher am I?John Dewey once said, “Learning is doing.” (http://www.marxists.org/archive/novack/works/1960/x03.htm)This quote/phrase is the corner stone to my building of teaching. It shouts out, be active with activities and have fun with your students. The meaning of Mr. Dewey’s philosophy is Democracy, the word of freedom and joy. I feel that the children should have a say in what goes on in the classroom. They should help make the rules, create learning activities and plan parties or events in the school. In other words I am a collaborative power base teacher. Everyone is given two chances and is treated with respect. I want to make learning and school fun so my students want to come back. I want to create an environment where the children feel they have a say in their education. I want to create a positive memory of their educational experience. This is the type of teacher I wish to be, because it is who I am.This

My classroom arrangement resembles what the average classroom at my old elementary school would look like. When I picture my future classroom, I picture the draft you see above. The reason why I mentally picture my future room like this is because of how it follows my philosophy.
As you can see my 25 student’s desks are arranged in a five by five square. I have the desks arranged this way because of its easy access to correct the behavior and help my students. It also is a way to provide a perfect educational learning environment by spending little time passing out materials.
My desk is positioned at the back of the room for two soul reasons. One, it keeps me from wanting to set down when I am teaching in front of my class. Two, it has a great view on watching my students during tests and quizzes to see if they are cheating or not, also it a good way to watch over them during quiet work.
The “Meeting/Reading/Quiet Center,” is a circle in my room which is the place where many things shall take place. In the morning I shall hold a quick meeting with my class where we take attendance, lunch count, do brain gym, and talk about what we are going to learn today. The purpose of this meeting in the morning is to prepare my students. Now the reading/quiet part of this center is for when the children during recess want to read a book or do something in peace, also it serves as a place when I would read a book to my class. That is why the book shelves are located next to the circle rug. The two bulletin boards posted on both sides of the Smart Board are there for my class. On the bulletin board to the right is where I have my “Green, Yellow, and Red Behavior chart.” (Which follows the basic idea of the three strike rule.) Than the other one on the far left will have a weekly schedule of what is going on during the week, stuff like extra activities, school events, etc. The Smart Board in the room will be used to teach the children by visual examples or interactive stuff online.
The two cabinets in the room are there for me and my aide to store our school supplies for the room. They also serve as a display board of the classroom rules and problems of the day of every subject. The one closest to my desk would serve as mine and my aide’s lockers. The large long cabinet along the right wall serves as the storage closest. Now the cubby holes located by the door is where my students would place their book bags, jackets (If they have one), and any other personal items in there for safe keeping during school hours. Finally the five computers along the left wall are there for a couple of reasons. One, it serves the room as a reward of what’s called “computer time,” which reinforces the student’s behavior. Two, it provides a source of tools the children can use during class to research something during group work or class work, also it introduces and gets the children comfortable about using computers.
Instructional Glimpse
Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. Students:
- Understand and use technology systems.
- Select and use applications effectively and productively.
- Troubleshoot systems and applications.
- Transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies
What will my students are doing:
My students will be learning how to add and subtract single and double digit numbers, along with money. As a whole class we will learn how to add and subtract single digit numbers, than I will break them into small groups of two. I will give each group a lab top with my PowerPoint downloaded into the lab top. My students will explore the presentation watching a quick YouTube video as a review of what I have just taught them. Then they will move through the PowerPoint answering a few math problems dealing with simple adding and subtracting problems to improve their skills. Once they all get to the slide that says “Stop! Let’s learn together…” we come together as a class and move to double digit numbers. I will teach them how to regroup when adding and how to carry over when subtracting. Then I let them go back to their groups where they will repeat what they did earlier, which was practice their adding and subtracting skills with a few questions. Once they reach again another stop slide, we will come together as a class and learn how to add and subtract dollar bills. After I show them it just like adding and subtracting double and single digit numbers, I will let them go back into their groups and have them finish up my PowerPoint having fun.
What competencies will the students need to know prior to completing this task?
Some of the competencies a student would need to know before doing this task is knowing how to click a mouse, be good listeners, and how do read.
What will they learn?
My students will learn how to do the basic skills of adding and subtracting through single and double digit numbers wither it is in money or number form. They all will learn how to use a PowerPoint presentation for learning activities
